In 2001 we bought a stove for our first home, we loved the stove but we thought we could make something better. We had a design and engineering background and an idea about a little stove with an oven. From the sketches we made a wooden prototype and then found a company who could make the parts for it in steel.
The early prototypes were welded up in our garage and trialed in our house. Our parts and tooling outgrew the garage and we got our first premises, an industrial unit in Caerphilly in South Wales.
We needed a name for our stove, one of our son's favourite books when he was 3 was about a penguin who didn’t like the cold, from that chilly penguin......... Chilli Penguin was born.
As our first model had a little oven box on top, it became known as the Hungry Penguin. Our first customer bought the first production model in 2002. We are still in touch with that customer and he is still using his Hungry Penguin.
In 2010 we were able to move the business to its current base in the beautiful Llyn Peninsula, near Pwllheli. We have retained our existing relationships with companies in South Wales and found additional partner companies in Caernarfon and Anglesey for some of the industrial processes.
Today we have over 70 stockists across Wales and the UK and have recently opened up our own showroom in Pwllheli, "Stof 49". To view our new shop website, please click here.
Our stoves can be found are all over the country; in houses, offices, studios, cafes, converted chapels, canal boats, yurts, shepherd's huts, glamping pods, man dens and recently a cave dwelling. They come in all shapes, sizes and colours and we are very proud of all of them. Each of them has been hand made, in our workshop on the Llyn Peninsula, and individually checked before being sent out into the big wide world.

We can genuinely say our stoves are designed and manufactured in Wales.
We are interested in sustainable energy production and we are committed to supporting British manufacturing. Not only because the UK is good at it but because every order contributes to the salary of someone local to us or someone we know.
We love stoves ourselves, we design them, build them and have them in our homes and workshops. We are inspired by the climate that we live in. Over the winter we can get battered by the winds and we are surrounded by damp, salty air and the same stoves have been performing brilliantly for over a decade now. For us that is the best recommendation we can give you.
